History of the Pakistan People’s Party ;;;
The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)was founded on November 30,1967 by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto,who became its first chairman and later served as Prime Minister of Pakistan.The party was launched at a founding convention held in Lahore on November 30 and December 1,1967.Bhutto created the PPP as a vehicle to challenge the then-government of Ayub Khan his former political mentor, aiming to bring about political change.PPP was initially founded with a focus on rapid modernization and the implementation of Islamic socialism,emphasizing secularized Islamic principles of social justice.Over time the party embraced some aspects of Islamization due to popular demand but maintained a center-left,socialist-progressive, and social democratic political stance.It supports public ownership,egalitarianism,equality and strong national defense.PPP is recognized as the largest political party in Pakistan and has played a significant role in the country’s political landscape for over five decades.It has been a major force advocating for democratic institutions and has often stood against military interventions in politics.
The party’s founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto remains a central figure in its history and the PPP continues to be associated with his vision of a prosperous and progressive Pakistan.The party has a long-standing struggle for democracy and has been a symbol of Pakistan’s endeavor for democratic governance.The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) released its basic manifesto on December 9,1967 with the slogan:”Islam is our Religion;Democracy is our Politics;Socialism is our Economy;Power Lies with the People.” This manifesto was authored by Bengali communist J. A. Rahim and laid out the foundational objectives of the party.The PPP aimed to reduce economic inequality by adopting a clear socialist program focused on nationalization and wealth redistribution.The party sought to implement socialism to ensure economic justice and reduce disparities.The manifesto emphasized that political power should rest with the people,reflecting a commitment to democracy.Upholding Islam as the religion:The party recognized Islam as the guiding religion,integrating it with their political and economic goals.Additionally the PPP promised to address basic needs such as food,clothing and shelter (“roti, kapra,aur makaan”) mobilizing both rural and urban workers to challenge the existing regime and promote social justice.There is no doubt that overall it can be said that the Pakistan People’s Party was founded in 1967 by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto as a center-left political party with socialist and democratic ideals,aiming to modernize Pakistan and challenge authoritarian rule.It remains one of the most influential political parties in Pakistan’s history.No doubt the PPP’s basic manifesto aimed to create a democratic,socialist and Islamic framework for Pakistan,focusing on social equality, economic reforms and empowering the masses.
